Abstract

Future sixth generation (6G) networks will require AI-native Network Digital Twins (NDTs) to enable autonomous network management and real-time optimization. This panel presents the 6G-TWIN Federated Simulation Framework, an open-source co-simulation platform that integrates heterogeneous simulators—including communication, mobility, and application-level tools—through standardized interfaces, distributed execution, time synchronization, and protocol translation. The framework provides a scalable and interoperable environment for realistic what-if analyses and large-scale network experimentation.

A distinctive feature of the framework is the integration of AI-based functional models with conventional simulators. These models implement intelligent functions such as routing optimization, mobility management, and coverage prediction, enabling closed-loop optimization and the training and validation of AI algorithms under realistic network conditions. The panel will discuss the framework architecture, the challenges of federated co-simulation, and the role of AI-driven functional models in supporting the development of scalable and intelligent 6G Network Digital Twins.
